Aggressive Squirrels Attacking People In California

Signs posted on sandwich boards around Cuesta Park have a simple message. “Beware of Squirrels,” they advise picnickers and those out for a morning stroll. The warnings are not new, but park officials are stepping up their efforts to contain the squirrel population after young Andrew Packard was scratched and bitten by a squirrel interested in some of the muffin the four-year-old was eating. Packard was left with some red scratches up and down his arm, and a series of painful rabies shots. “The squirrel problem has been a big issue,” said Laurie Gibson, keeping a watchful eye for the charming rodents on her morning jog through Cuesta.“Have you seen aggressive squirrels?” a reporter asked her. “Yeah, I have, and one of the reasons why is because originally people used to feed them and they used to be able to get into the trash cans,” she said. The park recently installed some squirrel-proof disposal containers, and the charming rodents are getting aggressive. “It's like hey, where's my hand-outs?” said Gibson. The rabies shots were more precautionary, said Mountain View Community Services Director David Muela, since the squirrels are not rabid. But the warning signs are clearly not enough. “As a result of this last incident, we are stepping up our efforts, and going to begin trapping the squirrels, effective this week,” Muela said. And the first lesson of public parks, do not feed the animals, has become more important than ever.

A Chirping New Finger Food

Would you like your crickets deep fried and crispy? or peppered and presented in a neat circle on a bed of green leaves? Breeders of crickets say the insects have become "finger food for beer drinkers" in an age of increasing prosperity in Vietnam compared with the recent past when they might have been food for the hungry or for wartime soldiers surviving in the jungle.Businessman Le Thanh Tung raises hundreds of thousands of the flying insects in barrels and sells them to restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeast Asian country's largest urban area, or to other breeders in neighboring provinces. "The taste is very particular, very special and it smells good and tastes delicious but it is very difficult to compare cricket to other meat," said Tung, 28, suggesting that crickets are an acquired taste. At his small farm and restaurant about 25km west of the city center, a plastic-covered menu with photographs of cricket dishes offers "young crickets deep fried," "cricket salad," "breaded cricket," "cricket noodle" and "peppered cricket."

Britain Sought UFO Unit Cover-Up

Call them the Department of U F Os. Turns out the British Defense Ministry had a unit to investigate unidentified flying objects. Only they didn't want anyone to know.
A British paper reports that when it came time for a routine release of records after 30 years, officials wanted to delete information about the unit. But it was finally released to a couple of university professors who pressed the matter. They say the documents really don't show much information about U F Os. A defense ministry official says this was all going on at the height of the Cold War. The official says they weren't looking for spaceships from Mars with little green men. Instead, they were really concerned about a Soviet invasion.

Voodoo Dolls Used To Topple Taiwan President

Opponents of Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian have found a new weapon to try to bring about his downfall - voodoo dolls. Since opposition parties launched the campaign to oust Chen over alleged corruption scandals four months ago, they have tried all manner of gambits to pressure and shame him into resigning. The opposition has tried articles, slogans, rhymes, jokes, anti- Chen T-shirts, balloons, rallies and sit-ins, but Chen has refused to step down. Now, a couple named Lin has created Chen Shui-bian voodoo dolls, which are selling like hot cakes. 'We hit upon the idea because we found all the anti-Chen commodities were not cute, so we began to make Chen Shui-bian voodoo doll with hemp thread,' Mr Lin said. On Saturday, the first day of offering the dolls for sale, the couple took 7,000 Chen Shui-bian voodoo dolls to an anti-Chen mass rally, and the voodoo dolls were snapped up within a few hours. Each doll sells for 180 Taiwan dollars (6 US dollars).

Voodoo dolls originated in Africa and the Caribbean, growing out of the practise of traditional religions. Believers with a grudge against someone will write the name of their enemy on a voodoo doll, poke it with needles and place a curse on the doll.

Man's Discovery An Out-Of-This-World Find

Walking in his friend's field just northwest of Phoenix, Ariz., in June, Joe Stambeck stumbled upon a rock that he considers to be out of this world. The rock -- about the size of a large melon -- bears the image of a person's profile, complete with what appears to be an eye, nose, mouth and neck. ``I was just walking along and tripped on it,'' he said. ``But when I picked it up and looked at it, I knew it was something really unique.'' Is it a profile of a woman? A Native American artifact? A freaky natural rock formation? Or perhaps, as Stambeck says it may be, a picture of an alien? ``I don't know exactly what it is, but I know it definitely was not formed by nature,'' he said. ``It was put here by someone or something.''Stambeck has collected Native American artifacts and fossils for years, but his latest find is one of the most interesting things the 49-year-old Decatur man has ever found, he said. ``It kind of looks like an alien head, so I'm not ruling out it being something extraterrestrial,'' he said. ``You don't see something like this every day.'' Stambeck said he plans on contacting a geologist or anthropologist at Western Michigan University in the near future to have the rock examined. Once a determination is made about what the rock is, he said, he will likely sell it or donate it to a museum. Until that time, however, the rock will remain under lock and key at his home. Few have seen it, and of those who have, even fewer have ventured a guess about what it might be. ``Pictures really don't do it justice,'' Stambeck said. The rock does seem to be bringing Stambeck some good luck, however. A part-time bartender at the M-40 Bar in Decatur, Stambeck said he sometimes rubs the rock before he goes to work, where he plays the Michigan Lottery's Club Keno game during his down-time. He has won more than $200 since finding the rock. ``It gives me a lot of good luck and a little bad luck,'' he said. ``But it does have some charm to it.''

Girl In Far Western Nepal Emits 'Glass Pieces' From Forehead

In what seems to be a bizarre case that has baffled medical practitioners, a young girl in the district of Kailai, far western Nepal, has been emitting transparent solid objects, purported to be glass pieces, from her forehead. A team of doctors from the Nepalgunj Teaching Hospital (NTH) at Kohalpur began their research on 12-year-old Sarita Bista, who has been excreting glass pieces from the side of her forehead for the last three years. According to family sources, Bista, who is currently under constant medical observation, has emitted more than 130 "glass pieces", averaging 4 cm in length and 1 mm breadth, since January 18, 2006. “The CT scan report indicates that she has some kind of problem in her forehead skin," said Dr M Kiduwai who is involved in the research, "The pieces do not seem to be coming out from the bone. But we can give more details only after further investigation."
12-year-old Sarita Bista
Dr. Keduwai also informed that the girl would be put under medical observation for the next three days "to study the process of formation and emission of the glass pieces." Professors SM Mishra, SK Gupta, Dr CP Pandey and Dr Anir Shrestha of Kohalpur Medical College are involved in the research. The doctors claim this to be the first case of its kind in the history of medical science. "There are many examples where cranial bones have grown unnaturally to give the impression of horns. But the human body does not produce glass,” Dr Kiduwai said, adding, "It's a strange case." The doctors have said that they would seek help from scientists at Nepal Academy for Science and Technology (NAST). “Something that looked like shining glass pieces could be seen coming out of her forehead skin but there is no glass inside the cranium,” said Dr. Jitendra Mahaseth, deputy director of the NTH. Mahaseth also informed that Bista's skin sample would be sent to NAST for further investigation. The girl has been emitting "triangular glass pieces" everyday since August 7 this year, according to her family sources. “Once she excreted 12 pieces of glass in one day,” said Sarita’s mother Dhansara Bista."At the beginning, there was a blister at the side of her forehead. When we scratched it, a piece of glass came out," Dhansara said explaining how her daughter started "emitting glass pieces." Sometimes Sarita loses consciousness when she begins to "emit" glass pieces, Dhansara said, adding her daughter has never met with any accident. Generally, Sarita starts emitting glass pieces from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Dhansara claimed. Sarita's parents have already spent over Rs. 300,000 for her treatment but to no avail. They have sought financial help for her further treatment.

Sheep Slaughtered In 'Satanic' Ritual

Police are hunting "devil worshippers" after a series of sickening "satanic rite" attacks on sheep at a national park. Around 100 animals have been found slaughtered and mutilated with their tongues, eyes and sexual organs removed on Dartmoor in Devon in the past year. All of the bodies had been arranged in a satanic star shape on the floor or laid out in a circle with their necks broken. Most of the blood-thirsty rituals have been carried out during a full moon.In the latest attack farmer Charles Mudge, of Tavistock, Devon, found 30 of his flock dead with bizarre half-moon symbols carved into their flesh. He discovered all their bodies lying near a bloodstained stone altar and wooden stake. "We are absolutely devastated. It is disgusting," he said. "We don't know how they're doing it. But they must be people with dogs and have got to be used to handling sheep." A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the majority of incidents have taken place during a full moon. She added: "The killings are becoming increasingly vicious. We currently have no suspects."

Ghost In The Room? It Could All Be In Your Brainwaves

Neuroscientists investigating a young woman with epilepsy believe they have stumbled on an explanation why some people feel a ghostly presence nearby or develop paranoia. The 22-year-old woman was being assessed for brain surgery for epilepsy but was otherwise psychologically healthy. Part of the evaluation pinpointed the area for surgery, using thin electrodes implanted into a region of the brain. Reporting the case in today's Nature, the weekly British science journal, the doctors say that when they sent a small current to the woman's left temporo-parietal junction, she said she had the impression there was somebody behind her.The person was a "shadow," young and of indeterminate sex and did not speak, she said. The doctors slightly increased the current and changed the woman's position from lying down to seated, and got her to hug her knees. She then said she felt the creepy presence of man who was also sitting and who was clasping her unpleasantly in his arms. The temporo-parietal junction is used for social reasoning - to assess oneself and distinguish oneself from others.

Psychic On Payroll Causes Outcry

Colombia's chief prosecutor hired a psychic who hypnotized his staff and performed an exorcism over a voodoo doll in exchange for a government paycheck and use of an armored car. The ensuing scandal has mesmerized the nation. The federal prosecutor, Mario Iguaran, says he hired Armando Marti last year to help his stressed-out staff deal with a crushing caseload and to improve human relations. Marti, a self-described clairvoyant, claims to have implicated corrupt workers in illegal wiretaps and bribery during the months he spent roaming the prosecutor's heavily fortified bunker, hypnotizing officials and writing up classified reports for Iguaran about staff loyalty. He says workers confessed to deep secrets and ratted out colleagues as they stared into his eyes. The operation, according to leaked documents was code-named "Mission Perseus of Zeus." The revelation that Marti was granted unfettered access has plunged into scandal one of Colombia's most respected institutions, an independent body responsible for investigating and prosecuting crimes in a nation torn by decades of conflict. Colombians were scandalized by revelations that the federal prosecutor's office paid the psychic as much as $1,800 a month and authorized him to carry a pistol, an employee badge and to ride in a government-issued armored vehicle. Marti said he became a confidante of Iguaran, one of the country's most trusted politicians, by helping him overcome marital problems. Earlier this week, Iguaran delivered a televised apology to the nation for the "unfortunate incident that began as something folksily quaint but that has now ended up affecting the institutional well-being of the federal prosecutor's office." He said he had ordered his office to terminate its contract with the consulting team to which Marti belongs. He also offered to cooperate with any congressional investigation.

Prison Nurse Suspended For Exorcism

An investigation is under way into claims that a nurse at a Northumberland young offenders' institution performed an exorcism on an inmate. The Prison Service confirmed that a nurse at HMP Castington in Morpeth had been suspended following the allegations. The nurse performed the exorcism on a 17-year-old who feared he was possessed by the devil after hearing voices and having disturbing visions. After carrying out the exorcism, the nurse told prison bosses what she had done, the newspaper said."The lad said he was possessed by the devil - he complained of hearing voices and seeing things," a prison insider told reporters. "This nurse, who has apparently performed exorcisms before, took it upon herself to go to his cell to carry out the ceremony. "Then she actually went and told the governor what she had done." An exorcism is a ritual where the devil is driven from the body of the victim by reciting prayers and Biblical scriptures. A Prison Service spokesman said: "An NHS nurse working at HMP Castington has been excluded from the prison while an investigation is carried out into an alleged incident. "We cannot comment further until the investigations are complete."

Eye Popping Accomplishment

Out of work Brazilian man Claudio Paulo Pinto is keeping his eyes out for a job. Pinto can pop his eyeballs at least seven millimetres out of their sockets - a national record for eye popping, according to RankBrasil, an organisation modelled after the Guinness Book of World Records that lists Brazilian records. A former driver, Pinto got a job scaring visitors in a commercial haunted house. But he recently was laid off, and now he seeks international recognition for his ability."I was measured by an opthamologist on television in January. I could pop my eyes out seven millimetres," Pinto said by telephone. "Since then, my capacities have improved over 50 per cent." That could put Pinto close to the record. The title of "furthest eyeball popper" in the Guinness Book of World Records currently belongs to Kim Goodman of Chicago, who can pop her eyeballs 11 mm out of her sockets.Pinto's ability is called "globe luxation". Doctors say it can strain blood vessels and nerves between the eyes and the head and feels unpleasant but usually doesn't cause lasting damage. Pinto says he's been luxating his globes since he was nine years old and "it doesn't hurt a bit".

Man Needed Surgery After Witchdoctor's Advice

A Serbian man needed emergency surgery after he had sex with a hedgehog on a witchdoctor's advice. Zoran Nikolovic, 35, from Belgrade, says the witchdoctor told him it would cure his premature ejaculation. But he ended up in an operating theatre after the hedgehog's needles left his penis severely lacerated. A hospital spokesman said: "The animal was apparently unhurt and the patient came off much worse from the encounter. We have managed to repair the damage to his penis."

Rare Ghost Exhibition Draws Crowds And Criticism In Malaysia

A rare exhibition of genies, ghosts and coffins is drawing huge crowds of Malaysians keen to catch a glimpse of the supernatural world, despite criticism that the spectacle is ‘un-Islamic’. Heart pounding and sweat beading on his forehead, businessman Ahmad Abdullah walked away from one spooky exhibit visibly shaken after being convinced he saw a spirit hovering above a once-used coffin and tombstone. ‘This is my third visit,’ said Ahmad, who came to the Sultan Alam Shah museum to see mythical creatures including a ‘mermaid’ supposedly captured in neighbouring Indonesia. ‘And I saw a white spirit in the dark enclosure.’ The 30-year-old said the spirit, or ‘pochong’ in the Malay language, appeared as a flimsy, white form in a glass room fitted with a coffin and a replica of a corpse that curators had created to lure the spirit to this world. Museum chairman Amzah Umar said some 100 items were on display to the public for the first time.
Visitors waiting to get inside the hall where the "Genies, Ghost and Coffin..." exhibition was held at Museum Sultan Alam Shah in Shah Alam
‘We have to believe in the other world. Muslims believe in the existence of genies. They appears to us in human form’ he told reporters. Amzah said that in the past, the imp-like, malevolent creatures were used to steal money and other valuable items and also to cause deadly harm. ‘The ghosts are now locked away and will not be able to harm anybody,’ he said, adding that when they were brought in, some of the mythical creatures exhibited gave off the smell of rotting flesh. A major attraction at the exhibition is a metre-long (three-feet) mummified ‘mermaid’ with dark hair, jutting teeth, scales on its brown body and the tail of a fish. Another unnerving item on display is a ‘langsuir’, Malaysia’s version of a vampire, with a shock of coarse hair and a mouthful of jutting teeth. It is said here that a woman who dies in childbirth will turn into such a creature. And a creepy half-woman, half-snake spirit known as a ‘nyai blorong’ looks ready to leap from its shelf, creeping along on clawed bird-like hands, with a bony face and a lipless line of razor-sharp teeth.
A visitor admiring what is said to be the mummified mermaid
Black magic used to be common in rural Malaysia, bred on myths and superstitions. It was used to gain power and wealth, and to harm enemies. The practice reached its height during the sultanate days of the 16th century, but faded away as the influence of Islam grew in this multicultural nation. But the lingering fascination with the supernatural has helped draw huge crowds to the exhibition which closes later this month. Authorities say some 300,000 people have visited since it opened in July. Islamic scholar Safuan Abu Bakar, who owns many of the exhibits, insisted that they are real and just ‘another creation of god’. ‘It is not aimed at changing the values of the people. It is just about sharing and seeking knowledge. You need to have a strong will. There is no need to be afraid that anyone will lose their faith in god,’ he said. ‘I am a religious teacher. It is my hobby to collect these paranormal items. It will help to instill strong spiritual feelings.’ Critics however say the exhibition should never have been held as it goes against the tenets of Islam. Nasarudin Mat Isa, vice-president of Malaysia’s fundamentalist opposition Islamic Party, said the exhibition was ‘a waste of time’. ‘It does not add to knowledge. It is against Islam,’ he said.

Malaysian Ghost Tree

Thousands of people from all walks of life are flocking to a Malaysian village in Kampung Paya to see a "ghost tree" which has reportedly sprouted a human face which "changes everyday." The New Strait Times reported that a five-meter tall betal nut tree in the village in Kampung Paya clearly has traits resembling human eyes, teeth and nose. Villagers, who dubbed the tree a "ghost tree," claim the face changes each day and they are selling photographs to visitors.Fifty-four-year-old Zainol Nayan was the first to notice the markings on the tree about ago but he said he did not pay much attention to it. He said the curves started to resemble a human face only about last week. He told the Strait Times, "Since then, villagers have gathered around the tree to see for themselves and the news spread like wildfire, attracting outsiders." Another villager, Noraziah Zakaria adds "I was curious and shocked to find that the curves indeed look like a human face."

Giant Catfish Terrorizes Park

A giant catfish is frightening tourists at a Centerparcs holiday park in Holland. The 2.3 metre European catfish eats two or three ducks a day and has even taken a few small dogs. Dutch divers reckon 'Big Mama', in the lake of a Centerparcs at Kempervennen, could be the world's biggest. Remco Visser, head of a Dutch diving school which uses the lake for practice dives, said the fish had scared a number of divers. But he added: "They don't have to worry because catfish don't eat humans. Most of the ducks have moved to another lake but visiting ducks, who don't know there is a catfish in the water, get caught." Centerparcs guards patrol the lake to keep away fishermen who have been trying to climb over the fences at night to catch Big Mama. Biologist Jean Henkes, of Centerparcs, added: "The catfish has grown so big because of the excellent water quality, enough food and rest."

Mysterious Light Over Washington State

Around 7:30 p.m. Monday, local news' phones started to ring as viewers reported seeing a ball of flames shooting across the skies of Western Washington. The calls came in mostly from Pierce and Kitsap counties. Michael Wittig and his wife were out barbecuing when they saw something streaking through the sky. They kept rolling as the fiery tail grew behind the mystery object. "It was pretty bright, and it was pretty big, and at one point it looked like it was getting more intense. It was a faded orange, then it got quite a bit brighter as it turned the corner," he said.People not only called reporters, they called the Federal Aviation Administration. While it looked very strange, it is actually very common. The FAA said the light was a high-altitude jet that was leaving a contrail behind it. The sun was at just the right angle before sunset to reflect off the jet and create the illusion of smoke and fire.

Australia's Notorious Grisly Murder Loses Appeal

An abattoir worker who stabbed her partner 37 times, skinned and beheaded him and cooked his body parts in a meal for his children lost an appeal against the severity of her life sentence, a court said. Katherine Knight was jailed in 2001 for the rest of her life, making her the first woman in modern Australian history to receive a full life term, but appealed against the sentence. Knight had pleaded guilty but her lawyers argued on appeal that the February 2000 killing of de facto husband John Price was not in the worst category of murder. A three-judge panel in the New South Wales state Court of Criminal Appeal rejected the argument, ruling that the brutal crime was the product of a violent personality and that Knight had shown no remorse.
First woman in Australia to be sentenced to life in prison ... Katherine Knight and, inset, John Price
"This was an appalling crime almost beyond contemplation in a civilised society," Justice Peter McClellan said in a written judgement. "The applicant determined to kill the deceased in a violent manner inflicting multiple deep wounds and after his death set about mutilating his body and in a macabre manner presented portions of it as a meal for his children," he said. Knight's original trial heard gruesome details of a crime "carried out with considerable expertise and an obviously steady hand" at a home they shared north of Sydney. It heard that Price's skin was removed in one "pelt" and hung from a meathook in the doorway of their living room. Price's head was later severed and parts of his buttocks sliced off. The court heard that Knight cooked his head in a large pot with vegetables "so as to produce a sickening stew". The pieces of his buttocks were baked in an oven with other vegetables Knight had prepared and the "gruesome steaks" were arranged and left on plates for Price's adult son and daughter. Police arrived at the home before Price's children.

Evidence Of Yeti Existence?

Photographic evidence from the place where footprints of, supposedly, a Yeti, most commonly referred to as an “Abominable Snowman,” have been found. The footsteps were found near the village Shogorka, 35 kilometers off the Kargapor settlement in the Pinezh region of the Arkhangelsk Oblast by a local hunter Leonid Skomorokhov. He found 30 footsteps within the 24-meters area. The length of each footstep is 31 centimeter, it looks like a paw with a long triangular claw on the tip of each finger. The footstep length is more than 1.5 meters.According to director of the Northern branch of the All-Russian research institute of hunting economy and fur farming Vladimir Korepanov, some of the footsteps belong to a bear, and some of them remind those of Primates and Ursidae simultaneously.Local residents have already made molds of the footprints.

Woman Discovers Mystical Fairy Ring

Fairies have been dancing in the garden of a Staverton couple, according to ancient English folklore. A large fairy circle has appeared in the lawn of Tom and Sue Gaylard's home in School Lane. Mrs Gaylard, 85, said: "It amazed me. I had never heard of it or seen anything like it before and I couldn't believe it." The perfect ring of mushrooms, know as a fairy or pixie circle, first appeared about three years ago and has re-appeared annually, each time getting bigger. Mr Gaylard, an 85-year-old retired railway worker, has lived in Staverton with his wife for more than 20 years. He said: "We don't believe in fairies of course but it is known as that. We didn't really pay much attention to it but then our daughter-in-law saw it and ran out to make a wish in it."In times gone past the rings, some of which are hundreds of years old, defied explanation spawning a host of legends in countries around the world to explain their presence. In English folklore the rings were said to be caused by fairies dancing in a circle, wearing down the grass beneath their feet. Toads would then sit on the worn down areas, poisoning it and allowing the fungus to grow - hence the name toadstool. In Sussex, fairy rings were called hag tracks', while in Devon it was believed that fairies would catch young horses in the night and ride them round in circles. In Denmark elves have been traditionally blamed for the rings while in parts of Austria they were thought to be the result of land being scorched by the breath of dragons. The rings are in fact naturally occurring circles of fungi that can grow up to 10 metres in diameter. They are caused by fungi under the ground casting out spores in a circular pattern resulting in the distinctive ring. In some cases the fungi remain underground and the ring is marked by discoloured patches of grass. The circles, which can appear anywhere, can be formed by an estimated 50 different species of mushrooms and toadstools. Most cultures regard the rings as lucky, with their benefits as diverse as granting wishes to improve your looks. Although their true origins have been known since the 18th century the circles are still regarded as a fascinating phenomenon of the natural world.

Outlines of Rabbits Mysteriously Appear on Roads

Rabbits are taking over some roads in northwestern Vermont and it's got people talking. Outlines of rabbits, spray-painted in white, have been stenciled onto city streets and rural roads in St. Albans, Georgia, Fairfield, Swanton and other communities in Franklin County and no one is quite sure what to make of it. "What is up with the bunnies?" L.B. Clark wrote in a letter to the editor of the St. Albans Messenger. The newspaper didn't have an answer but took up the good-natured lookout for the hares by posting a feature on its Web site called "Road Rabbits." An interactive map allows area residents to report where they've seen one of the stealth bunnies. No one is sure if the paintings are random art, graffiti, a game or a prank."They're all over the place," said Mike Juaire, a senior dispatcher for the St. Albans City Police. "I've heard that they're in Essex, South Burlington, and they're in my development in Swanton, but I've asked around and no one seems to know what they are." There haven't been any complaints, authorities say. "Just curious," as Clark wrote to the newspaper.

South Korean Talking Elephant

A 16-year-old Asian male Elephant surprised his trainer and other people as the male elephant speaks human language in South Korea, said the elephant trainer Kim Jong-Gap. Kim, 39, who works at Everland Zoo in Yongin, South Korea's Gyeonggi Province, said on Spet. 7, 2006 that he heard his elephant named Mr. Nose speak words of human language while he was working, and looked abound but there was only his elephant.Kim said that Mr. Nose is able to pronounce eight words including "Good," "Lie Down," "No," "Not Yet," and "Turn Around." The elephant's pronunciation of the Korean language is nearly the same as any Korean person. Kim said that Mr. Nose makes the human sound by inhaling air into his nose and controlling the air inside of his nose. The elephant was pronouncing after his trainer. Earlier in this March the zoo asked a local Soongshil University professor for the scientific analysis of the elephant's sound. The result of the test was that Mr. Nose's pronunciation is very close to the one of a middle-aged man.The zoo spokesman said that it will form a group of animal behaviorists including veterinarians to find out further details of the elephant's ability to speak human language. At this point, it is not clear whether Mr. Nose knows the meaning of his pronunciation. Experts say that Mr. Nose is the first elephant who speaks human language in the world.

Ghost Haunting Indiana Middle School

The school is named for Agnes Kahler, who taught there for more than 50 years. Some believe her ghost hangs over all who enter. During a late night back in May alarms at the school sounded - and no one could shut them off for almost an hour. “Needless to say, it was pretty freaky,” Dyer Fire Chief Thad Stutler said. Some think the alarms displayed Kahler's cry for help. “It was just strange,” Stutler said. “I guess there could be ghosts, [but] we didn’t see anything, we didn’t really hear anything other than the thing on the wall that said ‘help’ and then I find out it’s not supposed to say help and there’s no way to make it.”Firefighters and school officials said the problem at the school may not have been spiritual at all. It could have been an electrical malfunction, which is a less alarming explanation, and one certainly less interesting than a haunting. The new principal here has heard some of the stories, but never a peep from Kahler. “I knew that there was a cemetery next door, that’s the only thing I’ve known,” Principal Karen Brownell said. Kahler's final resting place overlooks the school bearing her name, and ghost or not, the current stir is conjuring an interest in her legacy.

Doctor Leads Time Travel Research

Experiments aimed at unlocking secrets of time travel are being led by Aberdeen University. Researchers are examining the fabric of space time and what science fiction authors refer to as the fourth dimension. Dr Charles Wang will study the microscopic movement of atoms, which can be affected by the earth spinning. He said: "This is a very interesting possibility which cannot entirely be ruled out by physics." Television's Dr Who and the Back to the Future movies promised the concept of time travel. Albert Einstein said instead of considering space to be a shapeless vacuum it should be looked at as an object. The theory is for something to exist it must have length, breadth and thickness, the three dimensions. It must also have something else. An object exists from the moment it is created to the moment it is destroyed. In between those moments is the duration of time - the so-called fourth dimension.HG Wells wrote the Time Machine about it - now Dr Wang hopes to make it real. He is a reader in the College of Physical Sciences and a member of the Aberdeen centre for applied dynamics research. Dr Wang said he is waiting for the European Space Agency (ESA) to launch a science satellite to aid his research. He told reporters: "If you have curved space time, the time circles and you might just travel in time. "If we can slow down the atom and isolate it and guide into the fluctuation then there's a possibility it's there. "The increased sensitivity obtained by a space experiment certainly makes a space mission very worthwhile. "If successful the results will have a profound impact on our understanding of the fundamental nature of space and time in the universe." Dr Wang however has time on his hands, as the ESA satellite is not due for launch until 2015.

3 Alleged Grave Robbers Charged With Attempted Sex Assault On Corpse

The three men arrested for digging up the grave of a woman who died last week in Grant County are also charged with attempted sexual assault. The three men appeared in Grant County Circuit Court on Tuesday. According to a criminal complaint, the three men were charged with digging up the grave at the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in Cassville with the intent to have sex with the victim's body. Alexander Grunke, his twin brother Nicholas Grunke and their friend Dustin Radke -- all 20 years old -- are in a Grant County jail. The grave that the men are accused of trying to dig up belonged to Laura Tennessen, 20, of Cassville, who was buried last week after being killed in a motorcycle crash on Aug. 28. The men were formally charged with attempted theft and attempted third degree sexual assault. Radke confessed and said that the incident was an elaborate plan to have sex with the corpse. He told authorities that Nicholas Grunke asked him to help dig up Tennessen's grave and take the corpse back to a pre-selected location behind his house with the intent to have sex with her.Authorities said that Radke said that the three stopped at the Wal-Mart in Dodgeville on their way to the cemetery and bought condoms. If the three men are convicted, they could face more than five years behind bars for both the misdemeanor theft and the attempted sexual assault, which is a felony. The bail for Radke was set at $1,500. For both Nicholas and Alexander Grumke, bail was set at $1,000.

Missing Jet From The 1953 Kinross UFO Incident Found

At 6:22 p.m. on November 23 1953, an F-89 Scorpion jet was scrambled from Kinross Air Force Base near the Michigan Soo to intercept an unidentified object detected in restricted airspace over the Soo Locks. The U.S. fighter was seen on radar over Lake Superior, merging with the craft it was pursuing. Then, it disappeared from radar. Never to be seen again. Ever since, the UFO-theorist circles have been speculating what might have happened. In October 1968, the Sault Star reported that aircraft parts believed to have come from a "high-performance military jet aircraft" had been discovered by prospectors on Lake Superior's Canadian side.
Images from the first & secound pass over the missing plane
Today, the UFO circles have started buzzing again, with speculation that this side-scan sonar image might be the missing F-89 Scorpion. The dive company's website indicates it's currently involved in a forensic investigation of the Canadian wreck site. A company map shows the search area as being in Ontario waters off the tip of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. The dive company also intriguingly indicates that its sonar detected another "interesting" object near the sunken aircraft, that might be part of whatever it was that the jet was pursuing.

Area 51 Rumours Confirmed, Feds Arrest 15 Aliens At Roswell

It appears that the black helicopter brigade were right all along about Area 51, since US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operatives this week arrested 15 aliens at the facility who were, chillingly, in the process of painting military aircraft when the net closed. That's according to an official ICE report under the splendid headline "ICE arrests 15 aliens in Roswell working for US military contractor". We answer 99.6% of all support calls within 5 seconds. Rackspace Managed Hosting with Fanatical Support The aliens in question were described as "determined to be illegally residing and working in the United States" and will be sent back to their place of origin. Any US reader who suspects that he may be working alongside an alien can report any "suspicious activity by calling ICE's toll-free hotline at: 1-866-347-2423". Stay vigilant.

Man Kills His Children And Himself Due To Voodoo Curse

A father, convinced he was the victim of a Voodoo Curse, drowned his two young children in the bathtub and then jumped to his death in front of a subway train, police said. Franz Bordes, 39, died at a Brooklyn subway station. Investigators found several suicide notes indicating he was at odds with relatives of the children's mother, a Haitian immigrant like Bordes. "They're using everything they can to destroy me, most of all Voodoo," one of the notes read, according to police.Bordes, who was unemployed, lived with Francoise Mercier, 42, and their children, Sweitzer, 2, and Stephanie, 4, in an apartment on Staten Island. Family members told police that the father usually looked after the children while Mercier worked as a nurse's aide. After Mercier learned Bordes was dead, she rushed home from work to check on her children, and found them in the bathtub, not breathing, police said. Paramedics later pronounced them dead. One of the suicide notes was found on Bordes' body. Six more were in the home.
